Illumia Strengthens Access Control With Integration to Genetec Security Center
The integration helps campuses automatically update door access as students, faculty and staff receive new credentials or change roles
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — August 24 — Illumia, formerly known as Transact + CBORD, an award-winning leader in innovative higher education, healthcare, senior living, and corporate technology, today announced a new access control integration with Genetec™ Security Center that helps colleges and universities automatically update door access when students, faculty and staff receive new credentials or change roles.
The integration connects Illumia’s TSE and Transact IDX® platforms with Genetec Security Center so access permissions can be updated automatically. When a student, faculty member or staff member gets a new ID or their role changes, the system can automatically update which buildings and rooms they can access, reducing the need for manual updates by campus staff.
For colleges and universities, door access is one of the most important and frequent uses of campus credentials, often representing an estimated 65% to 70% of credential transactions on a residential campus. Students use their ID to enter residence halls, academic buildings, recreation centers, and other spaces throughout the day. When access rights are managed manually, routine changes such as move-ins, major changes, staff role changes, or credential updates can create unnecessary administrative work for card offices, IT teams, and security teams.
The Genetec Illumia OneCard plug-in helps reduce this complexity by connecting access control with the systems campuses already use to manage identities and credentials. It also helps campuses avoid the cost and upkeep of custom integrations between their credential system and door access software.
“Mobile credentials and electronic door access are becoming a bigger part of campus life, and schools need a more automated way to keep access rights accurate and up to date,” said Scott Dennison, Sr. Director Partnerships at Illumia. “Whether a campus needs a new system, has existing technology, or a mix of both, all schools need a way to connect those environments without relying on manual updates or custom one-off integrations. By connecting TSE and Transact IDX with Genetec Security Center, we’re helping schools modernize credentials and keep access rights current across the systems they already use.”
The integration supports TSE and Transact IDX customers and prospects that use Genetec Security Center for door access on part or all of their campus. Genetec Security Center is used by campuses across North America and brings access control, video surveillance and other security functions into a unified platform.
“As campuses adopt mobile credentials and more dynamic identity models, access control systems need to remain continuously aligned with those changes,” said Rick Taylor, National Director for Public Sector, Genetec Inc. “This integration connects Illumia’s campus credential platforms directly with Genetec Security Center, helping organizations reduce manual work while improving the speed and consistency of access updates.”
The new integration reflects Illumia’s continued investment in access control connectivity as colleges and universities modernize campus credentials. For schools adopting mobile credentials, compatibility with existing access control systems is critical to reducing friction for card offices, IT teams and security teams.
